Common Cannabis Terms

First, learning the lingo is the first step to entering the world of cannabis. We’ve rounded up (just some) of the most common cannabis terms to help you build a foundation of understanding before diving deeper into cannabis.

  • Bud: This is the flower of the cannabis plant, and it’s what most people think of when they picture cannabis.Medicinal cannabis with extract oil in a bottle isolated on white background.
  • THC: Short for tetrahydrocannabinol, THC is the compound in cannabis responsible for the “high” or psychoactive effects.
  • CBD: Cannabidiol is another compound found in cannabis, but it doesn’t provide any psychoactive effects.
  • Hybrid: These are cannabis strains that are a mix of both Indica and Sativa plants. They can have a variety of effects, depending on the specific genetics.
  • Indica: Indica strains are known for their relaxing and sedating effects.
  • Sativa: Sativa strains tend to be more uplifting and energizing.
  • Edibles: These are cannabis-infused food or drinks. They can be anything from brownies and gummies to teas and sodas.Cannabis gummy bears in white bowl with leaf on colorful orange background, copy space, background texture, legal cbd medical jelly concept
  • Dabbing: This is a method of consuming cannabis concentrates by vaporizing them with a very hot source like a butane torch lighter. The concentrates are often very potent.
  • Terpenes: These are aromatic compounds found in cannabis (and other plants) that contribute to its flavor and scent. They can also have various effects on the high.
  • Cannabinoids: These are the chemical compounds found in cannabis, like THC and CBD, that interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system.

Adult-Use Cannabis Laws 101

Now that you have the lingo down, let’s move on to the law. It’s essential to know the Maryland adult-use cannabis laws to enjoy cannabis responsibly and avoid any run-ins with law enforcement. As of July 1, 2023, if you’re 21 or older, you have the green light (pun intended!) to have a bit of fun with cannabis and its products.

Additionally, here’s the lowdown on what you can have: up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis, up to 12 grams of concentrated cannabis, cannabis goodies with a max of 750 milligrams of delta 9 THC, and you can even grow up to 2 cannabis plants at your place. Just make sure to keep those plants secure and hidden from prying eyes. Oh, and it doesn’t matter how many grown-ups share a home; the two-plant rule applies to the whole residence.

What’s more, you can also share the cannabis love with your fellow adults (21 and up), as long as it’s within the personal use limit and no money is involved. Feel free to enjoy cannabis in your or someone else’s private residence, as long as your landlord is cool with it if you have one. Make sure you enjoy responsibly and don’t operate any heavy machinery under the influence.
