Do I need a medical card to buy cannabis in Maryland?
No, you do not need a medical card if you are purchasing adult-use cannabis for recreational purposes. Anyone who is 21 or older with a valid government ID can legally buy cannabis in Maryland. However, holding a valid Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA) medical card grants you exclusive benefits, including access to higher-potency items, larger purchasing limits, medical-only shopping hours, and complete exemption from the state’s 12% adult-use cannabis excise tax.
What should I bring when visiting a dispensary?
* For Adult-Use Shoppers (21+): You must bring a physical, unexpired government-issued photo ID that clearly displays your birthdate (such as a driver’s license, state ID card, military ID, or passport).
* For Registered Medical Patients: You must bring your physical, valid government photo ID along with your official Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) card or MCA registration credentials.
Can out of state residents purchase cannabis in Maryland?
Yes! Out-of-state visitors who are 21 years of age or older are legally permitted to purchase adult-use cannabis at our dispensary, provided they present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID from their home state or country. Please note, however, that Maryland does not practice medical cannabis reciprocity; out-of-state medical cards cannot be used to purchase medical-grade allotments or bypass the adult-use state tax. Additionally, federal law strictly prohibits transporting any cannabis products across state lines.
What is the legal limit for purchasing cannabis in Maryland?
For adult-use/recreational consumers, Maryland law permits the purchase and possession of up to the legal “personal use amount” per day. This includes:
- Up to 1.5 ounces of usable cannabis flower, OR
- Up to 12 grams of concentrated cannabis (vapes, dabs), OR
- Cannabis products containing a total of up to 750 milligrams of delta-9-THC (edibles).
Registered medical cannabis patients are permitted to purchase much higher quantities based on a rolling 30-day allotment determined by their certifying healthcare provider.
